The Orbit Marine from Current USA is packed with programmable features and two channels of dual Color spectrums.
The Current USA Orbit Marine Aquarium LED light comes with a wireless remote to control various different preset combinations. Much like the Finnex Planted+ 24/7, the Orbit Marine has set light settings which mimic natural outdoor lighting conditions. The program cycles through the day with varying intensities and color makeup.
The Orbit also has effects to impress your friends such as thunderstorm effects that mimic lightning strikes. The day cycle can be customized to the needs of your tank. While this unit may not seem to be specifically designed for corals we found and have heard from others that it can handle corals if they are placed higher in the tank.
Current makes a lot of noise about their two channels of dual spectrum control. You have the ability to control a combination of 8, 000k/12, 000k White along with 445Nm/460Nm Actinic Blue. This is possible due to the Dual Daylight and Dual Actinic multi-chip LEDs. They claim that this effectively makes two full spectrums and thus twice the effects.
While there may be twice as many effects the dual control was great for the price range but other higher end units have the same style dual or even multi channel controls. That said you are getting high end features at a much lower cost.
We did appreciate the slim design of the unit as it blended nicely with all of our tanks that we tested the unit on. It was easy to attach and we found it very sturdy. Another great feature – 120 degree lenses. This fully dispersed the light throughout our test tank with little problem. The PAR rating did not drop much either.
Lets talk Watts
The total wattage leaves a little to be desired as we have seen with other LED strip light style aquarium lights. The 4103 unit, largest option, has a total wattage of 46 with 96 Dual Daylight/96 Dual Actinic LEDs, 192 LEDs Total. Compare that to the VIPARSPECTRA which offer 100 3W LEDs for a total of 300 and you might begin to wonder. However, the lighting presets and total wattage will be fine for most applications.
